The Secretary of Energy visited SLAC today and gave a speech to over a thousand SLAC employees. The speech was full of"I'm proud of you guys," "This is a collection of the brightest minds in the world," and "The DOE is here for you guys!" His speech was so boring I decided to watch his Secret Service agents instead. It made me wonder, why does he need Secret Service agents? No one is going to kill the Secretary of Energy, and if they wanted to, two SS agents aren't going to stop them. I mean, if I had a gun and a motive to kill him (neither of which I have) I could have just walked up and shot him (which I didn't do). Anyways, at the end there was a Q&A session which total BS. All the questions were scripted. "What are the long term strategies as they relate to SLAC, and more specifically the LCLS, of the DOE? How is the administration planning on acquiring the funds necessary to fund the LCLS and other large projects?" It was really funny cause the host pointed to people who had questions and called them out by name, except for one person. Everyone knew that this was an unscripted question cause the host had no idea who this person was. I think the Secretary of Energy was a little stumped. It was fun to watch. All in all it was a good waste of 45 minutes but atleast I got a donut afterwards.
