Evolution Today
A CBS poll indicates that 51% of Americans do not believe in evolution. Most Americans do not accept the theory of evolution. Instead, 51 percent of Americans say God created humans in their present form, and another three in 10 say that while humans evolved, God guided the process. Just 15 percent say humans evolved, and that God was not involved.
I just don't understand how people choose not to believe in it. There is such overwhelming evidence to prove it's true and nonexistant evidence to the contrary. People accept that gravity keeps us grounded on Earth with similar levels of evidence but are unwilling to accept the validity of evolution.
What peeves me even more, though, is the fact that opponents of evolution claim there is a giant debate among evolutionary biologists as to the validity of evolution. THERE IS NONE. The debate lies in how specifically species have evolved, not on whether evolution is true. If you want to oppose evolution for other reasons (religious), feel free to, but don't blame it on scientists.

Hmm, I think the question should be worded differently. I think to be more clear, the question should be more specific on what evolution means. Deviation within a given species (micro-evolution) or deviation from a common ancestor to form everything today (macro evolution). I guarantee more people would advocate for a belief in micro evolution (++80%) than the evolution that seems to be denotated from that question (macro). Myself, I believe in micro-evolution, but not in macro-evolution.
Oh wait nm, I just read the article. But i still think the title is a little misworded? To say 51% of Americans do not believe in evolution? So does that mean evolution altogether, or micro evolution, macro evolution, or what? If i didnt read the article itself, I'd be rather confused on what they mean.
i personally think it's just hard for people to believe that humans as a species exist purely because of chance. because it implies that we can stop existing due to some random occurence--any day, any hour, any moment. personally, i don't blame them. it's a scary thought. but that doesn't make denying evolution as some do any less delusional.
